Platelet Rich plasma (PRP)

PRP belongs to a branch of medicine known as ‘regenerative medicine’ which harnesses the body’s natural abilities to heal and remodel tissues including the skin tissue.

PRP is derived from one’s own blood. It is natural and rich in blood growth factors which play a key role in skin healing and remodelling. When applied to healthy skin, PRP is excellent for rejuvenating the skin. On scar affected skin, PRP acts to remodel scars and restore skin integrity. PRP is also a popular treatment for hair loss.

FAQ'S

What does PRP treat?
  • Skin rejuvenation
  • Male/female pattern hair loss
  • Scarring

It can be a stand alone treatment or combined with microneedling, CO2 laser, chemical peels, Hydrafacial and so on.

How is PRP obtained?

Blood is taken from a vein; it is then processed in a centrifuge machine where different components of the blood are separated into layers; the plasma layer which is rich in growth factors is drawn up and this is the PRP.

How long does the procedure take?

Your appointment takes 30-60 minutes, depending on the areas treated and whether it is used as a stand alone treatment or an adjunct therapy to other treatments.

Is there any downtime?

PRP injections are associated with mild swelling and redness which can last several hours to a day. However, there is little discomfort after the procedure and most people are able to carry on with normal activities.

When will I see results?

Depending on the concern, one or multiple treatments may be advised.

Results usually become noticeable 4-6 weeks upon the completion of the course.
