Profhilo and Rejuran Together: A Layered Plan for Glass Skin

Discover how Profhilo and Rejuran work together to improve skin hydration, texture, elasticity and radiance. Explore their benefits, differences and how a layered treatment plan can help achieve healthy, glowing glass skin.

Quick answer:
Yes. Profhilo and Rejuran can sit in the same treatment plan because they do different jobs. Profhilo is a highly concentrated hyaluronic acid (HA) that spreads through the skin to improve hydration and firmness. Rejuran is a polynucleotide (PN) treatment aimed at supporting the skin’s own repair. Many clinicians space the two out rather than doing both in one visit, and the order and timing depend on your skin.
What does “glass skin” actually mean?
Glass skin is a K-beauty term for skin that looks smooth, evenly toned and so well hydrated that it reflects light. It is about skin quality, not shape or volume. That distinction matters. Injectables can improve hydration, texture and elasticity, but they will not erase deep pigmentation, active acne or sun damage on their own. Those usually need other treatments, such as lasers, peels or prescription skincare, plus daily SPF. If texture or marks are your main concern, our page on scarring and pigmentation treatments is a good place to start.
How does Profhilo work?
Profhilo is made of hyaluronic acid at a very high concentration. A 2 ml syringe contains 64 mg, split between high and low molecular weight HA. Unlike a filler, which stays where it is placed, Profhilo is injected at a small number of points and spreads through the tissue. HA holds water, so the skin looks plumper and better hydrated, and the product is also thought to encourage the skin to produce more collagen and elastin. The usual course is two sessions about four weeks apart, with a top-up around six months later.
How does Rejuran work?
Rejuran uses polynucleotides, which are purified DNA fragments, usually derived from salmon. They are placed into the upper layers of the skin, often as many small injections across the area. Polynucleotides are thought to support fibroblasts, the cells that make collagen and elastin, and to help skin hold moisture and recover from stress. People choose it for fine lines, thin or crepey skin, dullness, enlarged pores, acne scarring and the delicate under-eye area. A course is commonly several sessions a few weeks apart, followed by maintenance. Dr L’Art is an official UK Rejuran partner.

Why combine them?
Think of it as two different problems. Profhilo addresses dehydration and loss of firmness. Rejuran addresses the thin, tired quality of the skin itself. When both are present, using both can make sense. The honest caveat is that there are no large trials of this exact combination, so the reasoning comes from how each treatment works and from clinical experience. A good practitioner will tell you that rather than promise a guaranteed “glass” finish.
What a layered plan can look like
Every plan is individual, but an example might run like this:
1. Consultation and skin assessment. We look at hydration, texture, pigmentation, medical history and any allergies.
2. Skin-quality foundation. A course of Rejuran sessions, spaced a few weeks apart.
3. Hydration and firmness layer. Two Profhilo sessions about four weeks apart, timed so they do not overlap with swelling from a recent Rejuran session.
4. Surface care. A medical-grade facial between injectable sessions can help clarity. Dr L’Art is a HydraFacial Verified Clinic, and you can read more about skin-quality treatments here.
5. Maintenance. Top-ups roughly every six months, adjusted to how your skin responds.
Which comes first depends on your skin. Someone with very dry, dull skin may start with Profhilo. Someone with thin, crepey or scarred skin may start with Rejuran.
Who may not be suitable?
• Anyone who is pregnant or breastfeeding.
• Anyone with a known allergy to fish or salmon (relevant to Rejuran) or to hyaluronic acid products.
• Anyone with an active infection, cold sore, acne flare or skin condition in the treatment area.
• People with autoimmune or bleeding disorders, who should get medical advice first.
• Anyone on blood thinners may bruise more and should tell the clinician.
If you have an event coming up, allow at least two weeks for bumps and any bruising to settle.
What to expect afterwards
Expect small bumps, mild redness, tenderness and occasional bruising. Profhilo bumps usually settle within a day or two. Your clinician will give specific aftercare advice, but it commonly includes avoiding make-up for the first day, and avoiding intense exercise, saunas and facial massage for a short period. Results build gradually. Hydration changes are often noticed within a few weeks, and the effect of a Rejuran course tends to develop across the series of sessions. For pricing, see our price list.
How to choose a clinic for these treatments
Ask who will be treating you and what their medical training is. Check that products come in original, traceable packaging, and that a medical history is taken before anything is injected. Be wary of anyone who promises identical results for every person. At Dr L’Art, treatments are doctor-led and led by our medical director, Dr Dianni Dai, who holds a Master’s degree in Aesthetic Medicine.
Frequently asked questions
Can I have Profhilo and Rejuran on the same day?
Some clinicians do combine them, but many prefer to space them out so that swelling, bumps and bruising are easier to monitor. Your doctor will decide based on your skin and your timeline.
Which should I have first?
It depends on what bothers you most. Dry, dull skin often starts with Profhilo. Thin, crepey or textured skin often starts with Rejuran. A consultation is the best way to decide.
How long should I wait between the two treatments?
There is no single rule. A gap of a couple of weeks or more is common, so each treatment can settle before the next. Your plan should be set by your doctor.
Does it hurt?
Most people find both tolerable with numbing cream. Rejuran involves more injection points, so it often feels more intense than Profhilo.
How long do the results last?
Profhilo is usually topped up around every six months. Rejuran maintenance is often similar, though it varies with your skin, age and lifestyle.
Is Rejuran only for older skin?
No. People in their late twenties and thirties use polynucleotides to maintain skin quality, while others use them for repair. Suitability depends on your skin, not just your age.
Can these treatments give me glass skin on their own?
They can improve hydration, texture and glow, but glass skin also depends on sun protection, skincare, sleep and addressing pigmentation or acne separately.
